The switchable plug allows the pot to be used indoors and outdoors without risk of leakage indoors or flooding outdoors.
The feature in the bottom of the top reservoir allows for the two reservoirs to be cut off from eachother in the event of a filling. When the cap is removed, the valve shown seals off the bottom chamber to prevent the pot from flooding the plant with all of the water in the top reservoir.
